This slide occured near Companion Lake near Cooke City last weekend. This slope had a snowpack less than 3 feet deep prior to last week's snow. The snowpack became very weak and faceted during cold weather in January. The weak snow was apparent when we stepped off our sleds and our feet punched through the slab of new snow into the facets underneath. Photo: GNFAC
