We remotely triggered a large avalanche off of Henderson Ridge near Cooke City. It failed on a layer of large faceted grains. The slope was heavily wind-loaded and the avalanche was a hard slab, Photo: Doug Chabot
Stiff west winds created hard slabs that we triggered from the safety of the ridge. Even as I tried to write my snowpit notes the slope was reloading. Photo: Ross Lynn
Doug Chabot standing next to the crown of the avalanche he and his partner remotely triggered. It averaged 3-4 feet deep, was approx. 1,000\' wide and 700\' vertcal. The slope was heavily wind-loaded and was 33 degrees steep. Photo: Ross Lynn
This small road cut along the spur road to Big Sky produced a small slab avalanche.
